September 8th, 2011 brought us a blackout that covered the Southern part of the state from the coast all the way over to Yuma, AZ. The boys and I spent the afternoon at the pool with the cub scouts, while Tim went home and got flashlights out and freeze-dried food for us to eat...haha. They told us not to expect the power to come back on for at least 24 hours, and it was hot so we couldn't have the fans on. But, during the night, when the power had been out only about 7 hours, it came back on. We were so grateful for our refrigerated and frozen food. It really made us think about our food storage and how we can get back on track with emergency preparedness.
Tim brought his backpacking mini stove (works great) inside and made us a spaghetti and meatball freeze dried meal that fed all 4 of us. It was actually very tasty!
Luke helped Tim make 'pan toast'...one of my favorites from growing up.
The boys were so in to "camping" since we had the campstove out and were eating backpacking food, they wanted to sleep in sleeping bags in the family room. So funny. Funny cuz it only lasted a few hours. School was cancelled and the boys were thrilled!
